If we haven’t already known it, we find in this
day’s writing of Michael Wells that Michael could be a little sneaky, as well
as a little weird…who finds escalators hidden in bushes?!?
But anyway, Michael points out Jesus is the
operator of the Divine Escalator. That
is a glorious truth!
DAY 264
The Divine
Escalator
Yet
I am always with you; You hold
me by my right hand; You guide me with Your counsel; and afterward You will
take me into glory. --Psalm 73:23, 24
I have
said it once and imagine that it will be said a thousand times more: There is nothing that the
presence of Jesus will not cure. I can prove it! Once a brother told me
he was divorcing his wife and did not want to talk to me about it for fear I
would talk him out of it. I
stated that I did not want to talk him out of it; I only wanted him to spend
some extra time with Jesus to prepare himself for all the turmoil that comes
with divorce. He agreed to spend the weekend seeking the Lord for
strength to go through with the divorce, but at the end of the weekend he
reconciled with his wife. I knew, of course, that once he was with Jesus the
seemingly insurmountable problems of the marriage would fade away. Every believer has known God's
presence, not in emotion or intellect, but rather in the calm peace that He
gives that makes us know (really know) that we are more than conquerors!
Why do we leave that
peace, His presence?
I imagine
it this way. We are standing on the mountain with Him, and all is well. Then an
event knocks us down a little, then a person sets us back a little more, then a
sin, then a behavior, then finances, then the children, and then hopelessness.
When the slide from the top finally ceases, we find ourselves lying on our
backs in a pit with the beloved Savior no longer in sight. In fact, all we can
see are the obstacles that will have to be overcome to return to the top. It
would be too much effort to overcome sin, a failed marriage, loneliness,
financial problems, or feelings of hopelessness. "I am a failure."
"I am too weak." So we lie there.
Here is the secret! We can roll over on
our stomachs, crawl only about five feet, and there hidden in the bushes will
be an escalator! We need only crawl to it and lie there; it will take us all
the way back to the top of the mountain, all the way back to His presence. It takes
no effort of our own, nor must we overcome anything, for the escalator is
powered by the blood of Jesus, and He always willingly takes us back to the top.

So, what do you think your friends are going to say when you tell them
about your finding an escalator out in the bushes (or, wilderness, as some of
us very familiar with Michael’s writings know)?
Huh? What are you going to tell
them?
Will you tell them you “rolled over onto your stomach and crawled only
about 5 feet” and “there found the One who took you back to the top?” I believe we should.
Well, amen. And thank God for
making Michael to speak wisdom to us as only Michael could.
