In
today’s writing, Michael brings out a truth that many Christians never think
about…see if it grabs you like it should.
DAY 125
Hatching
Other’s Eggs
And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you shall be
saved, you and your household.” --Acts 16:31
It is rightly said that God does not have any
grandchildren! Christianity is not hereditary, but at times
we might wish it were so. God’s
desire is to have a unique relationship with each of us; the one He has with me is not
the one He wants with you. My wife and I have three children; I deal
with each one differently in the context of three unique relationships. It
would be odd to have the same type of relationship with all of them; it would
not work. What goes on between
God and each believer must be his own. A problem arises when we are
convinced to so regard other believers’ relationships with the Lord that we
coddle and nurture the truth that they have learned, when, in fact, God wants
to birth something unique in us. There is a wonderful book, Hudson
Taylor’s Spiritual Secrets; I believe everything that he said in the book.
However, the book never changed me or had much effect at all. Why? I think
there is a clue in the title. It is called Hudson
Taylor’s Spiritual Secrets and not Michael
Wells’ Spiritual Secrets. Hudson Taylor’s secrets are not mine; I have my own spiritual secrets, just as the Lord will show you what He
views as important in your life. I will give you a hint: The areas of your life in which He
is working have something to do with the exact place you are at today, exact in
job, family, and internal struggles. It is important that you hatch the egg that is yours and
stop thinking you are to hatch other people’s eggs.

“Hatch the egg that is yours.”
What a powerful truth. We each
need to tend to what God is doing in our life.
Actually, when we are cognizant and attentive to such, life is so
enjoyable! And, God is so real to us!
Since God does not have any grandchildren…we need to also know and be
alert to the importance of our not counting on/or trying to duplicate “our
faith” into our kids and grandkids.
In one of the very few books I have ever read that speaks to the problem
of great Christian parents watching their children fail to follow in the parents’
footsteps of
having the same “faith” as they do…check out Bruce Wilkinson’s Three
Chairs. The main premise is the same
Michael mentions here: each person must have their own faith…we must not be
trying to have our own “children” and “grandchildren” in our faith.
